PONGO DE MAINIQUE 7 Days

Itinerary:

Day 1:

We leave Cusco at 7am and take a bus to Quillabamba (8-hour journey).

The beautiful views en-route give you a taste of the tropical environment that you will be seeing in the Pongo! The road is breathtaking not only for the landscape but for the dramatic cliff edges that we drive along.

 In Quillabamba, we will rest for approximately 3 hours and then take a bus to Ivochote (9-hour journey). In Ivochote, we will stay in a hostel.

Day 2:

We will have breakfast and take a boat (5-hour ride) from Ivochote to Pongo de Mainique. We are entering the jungle and the famous Pongo! The views and atmosphere going down the river are amazing! We will camp alongside Bajo Urubambamba River, near Fundo San Carlos.

 Day 3:

We will hike into the jungle and visit a lake where we will see baby caimans. We will fish in the afternoon and go exploring.  A real jungle day!

 Day 4:

We will take a boat (2-hour ride) to Fundo San Carlos Timpia and visit the local jungle community (here we always try and buy something from them in order to help the community). We will spend the night here.

 Day 5:

We will leave the community at around 9.30am and travel towards Ivochote by boat (6 hours).  Here we will stay the night in a hostel.

 Day 6:

We will leave Ivochote at around 8am and take a bus to Quillabamba from there, we will have 3 hour rest and take the bus to Cusco

 Day 7:

We arrive in Cusco at around 8am.
